My Process
I started painting in my late 50s, sparked by a happy coincidence. A good friend, an accomplished artist, taught a couple of three-hour workshops that I was fortunate enough to attend. I found the process both expressive and immersive. With a brush in my hand and the choice of colours mine to make, I felt a sense of freedom I hadn’t experienced in a long time.
It reminded me of being a boy, playing with my Matchbox cars, when I could create endless fantasy worlds—all for myself.
Painting gives me a profound sense of freedom. It’s an expression that belongs entirely to me and feeds my soul. I love when it resonates with others, but I don’t despair if it doesn’t.
Each painting is a work in progress—a thread in the larger tapestry of my expression. I don’t expect it to have boundaries, but who knows? One day, I may reach that place where the journey slows or even comes to a close.
For now, though, I feel there’s a long road ahead.
Currently, I paint with acrylics on 300 x 300 mm boards, but I’m itching to try something bigger—just to see where it takes me.
Inspiration can be simple or complex. Sometimes the subject reveals itself before the work begins; other times, it emerges afterward. Each piece tells a story, and each carries a little bit of me.
I hope you find something in my work that speaks to you. And even if it doesn’t, I hope my process sparks curiosity and inspires you to explore an adventure of your own.
